LAB3: La Escuela - The School


Proyecto Malindi Saints of Hope School (MSoHS)

Consiste en la creación de una escuela privada, gestionada por la ONG (Community Based Organization) Home Of Hope Children`s Centre (HHCC). Con los ingresos, se pretende otorgar sostenibilidad  y autonomía financiera al orfanato,  eliminando su dependencia de la caridad.
En la actualidad, opera una unidad docente en infantil (pre-unit school).
El plan consiste en expandir la actividad, añadiendo más clases; en total, cinco: 3 de infantil (KG1..3), y 2 de primaria (P1..2), cada una con 30 alumnos (25 pagan, 5 becados):

Las actividades que se desempeñarán son:
Creación de cinco niveles de enseñanza
Equipar la escuela con todos los activos para el desempeño pedagógico
Equipar la escuela con una oficina de gestión
Equipar la escuela con servicios sociales
Dar soporte académico a la comunidad
Proveer alimentación a los alumnos
Servicios de atención sanitaria

Los objetivos son:


La inversión inicial (estimada):

Esto es, sobre 2800 € [106Ksh=1€], que serán devueltos a interés cero (filosofía de Muhammad Yunus aplicada a la Empresa Social de tipo II) cuando el proyecto se estabilice.

En cuanto a la rentabilidad, obtenemos de media mensual un beneficio de 550 euros, con los que cubrimos:

PROJECT NAME: HOPE SCHOOL PROJECT (HSP): MALINDI SAINTS OF HOPE SCHOOL

Proposal on the provision of an education facility as a private school herein “Malindi Saints of Hope’’ centre.

The business is a School Project to be run by HOME OF HOPE CHILDRENS CENTRE which is a Non Governmental Organization (Community Based Organization) that is working on helping orphans and vulnerable children.

The business is supposed to sustain the project in its financial requirements and also be the ladder to creating other income generating to sustain the project.  The aim of the project is to be self reliant.

Currently a school is running at the orphanage (a pre-unit school) and comprises only of children from the orphanage.

Our intention is to expand the school by adding more classes i.e. KG1, KG2, KG3, Pre-Primary class 1 and 2 (25 children/class) . By doing this, we shall be able to recruit children from out of the centre and charge them tuition money for good service (to run as a private school).  Through these funds we shall be able to be self reliant.

This project is meant to generate income to sustain the children’s centre and see the upkeep of the orphans at the centre.

Project Activities:
1.   Constructing a full fledged pre primary and primary school
2.   Equipping the school with learning facilities.
3.   Equipping the school with office facilities.
4.   Equipping the school with social facilities.
5.   Providing support in academic issues.
6.   Supporting a school feeding program.
7.   Providing medical care to the needy children identified.
8.   Paying of teachers’ salaries and other support staff.


 Objectives – Medium Term
1)   To provide a quality education facility to the community in by 2014
2)   To provide line basic support to the targeted children
3)   To support the school’s administration for effective running of the school by 2014
4)   By 2014 the project should be up and running self reliantly.

Objectives – Long term

1)    To have up to class 8 by 2016 so that the first lot can sit for their exam.
2)    To expand the project to be a school of recognition
3)    To be the best in academics in the region.

9.   Providing other administrative components.

Project Expected Outputs/Results.

At the end of the year (2013), a learning facility will have been constructed, 30 children (orphans and vulnerable) will have been provided with school uniforms, school fees and feeding program through income generated from the school, better academic empowerment to the community group.  The specific impacts expected of the project will be:-
·         A community with the vulnerable children enjoying their full education rights within the confinement of their age.
·         Reduced illiteracy level in the area by at least 5% (percent)
·         Improved academic status of the beneficiaries leading to increased socio-economic productivity.
·         Increased availability and accessibility to a primary learning institution.
·         A well managed school within the reach of the community.


Required Initial investment (tables, blackboards, books, computers):
About 2900 €. This ammount is going to be returned without interest rate (based on Muhammad Yunus philosophy applied to Social Enterprise TypeII), when the project is profitable.

With this, we can generate the folowing value (550€/month):
