Verano 2011 - Summer 2011

Nos desplazamos a Kenia con el objeto de invertir la cantidad recaudada por Nuria durante todo el año, aportada por tod@s l@s colaboradores/as del proyecto.

Ha sido un periodo muy estresante, a la vez que gratificante y productivo, con la agenda cargada de reuniones, desplazamientos y negociaciones. Aquí tenéis una prueba de ello: https://picasaweb.google.com/112062776384498906719/LogisticaLogistics?authuser=0&feat=directlink

En un principio, además de la ayuda urgente, se estuvieron barajando dos aspectos que, por desgracia, debido a la falta de fondos, no se han podido llevar a cabo. Uno de ellos es la adquisición de un terreno, más la construcción de un edificio que albergue el orfanato, y de esta forma evitar el coste de alquiler. El otro, el arranque de una empresa social destinada a aportar ingresos de forma sostenible.

Lo que a grandes rasgos sí se ha conseguido, es solventar el problema a corto plazo, llenando la despensa, adquiriendo literas (actualmente duermen 3 niños en cada cama), uniformes para el colegio (carecen de ropa decente), zapatos, artículos de limpieza y aseo personal, salarios atrasados de los trabajadores, alquiler, y material escolar. Todo ha sido adquirido en tiendas locales, algunas financiadas con microcréditos, y gestionadas por mujeres.

We moved to Kenya in order to invest the amount raised by Nuria throughout the year, provided by all the supporters of the project.

Initially, in addition to emergency aid, we attempted to afford two aspects which, unfortunately, due to lack of funds have not been able to accomplish. One is the acquisition of land, plus the construction of a building to house the orphanage, and thus avoid the cost of rent. The other, starting a social enterprise aimed at providing a sustainable income.

 What roughly itself has been achieved, is to solve the problem in short term, filling the larder, buying bunk beds (sleeps 3 children currently in each bed), school uniforms (they have no decent clothes), shoes, cleaning and grooming, the workers back wages, rent, and school supplies. Everything has been purchased in local stores, some of them financed with micro-credit operations, and managed by women.
