Home of Hope Children's Center, is located on the outskirts of Malindi (Muyeye area), a town north of Mombasa, eastern Kenya.

Currently we are housing 25 children.  The home was opened in November 2009 after we visited Milano, and found that most of the inhabitants are jobless and they depend more on  brewing as a source of income, which to us we felt that it wasnt something good to do in the eyes of growing children.  To us, this was one way of finishing the children completely.  Even though they were selling local brew, still children are not going to school.

Sophia and Maria sat down, and decided to come up with a way of assisting these children.  We did not know how to begin cause we had no funds.   Sophia, who is working, told Maria that with her salary, she would give half to her family and half to these needy children.  It wasnt easy but we tried our best and we sought for a cheap house to rent that we would put these children.

The house we got has no electricity, water but we decided to take it cause that is what we could afford.

Our wish is to take up more children if we can get funding from well wishers, cause Milano area of Malindi is a slum that is home to so many poor people.  Children do not go to school, but spend their time in the streets and at the beach, begging ,and some of them doing drugs and also child prostitution.

With funds from well wishers we wish to expand the place, put in many more children, put up a school which will help reduce taking the children to other schools where we pay fees.  If we can put up a school of our own we will just be paying the teachers and workers. Our desire is to also rehabilitate some of the street children in the area but still funding is a problem.
